Srinagar, Feb 05 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir has secured the 4th rank in the country for the police population ratio from 2019 to year 2023, with a ratio of 598.52 police personnel per lakh of the population. The Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, provided these details regarding the police population ratio in the Lok Sabha. Since 2019, J&K has shown consistent performance in its police population ratio. In 2019, the ratio was 656.62, one of the highest in the country. Over the years, the ratio saw a gradual decline, reaching 590.15 in 2022. However, in 2023, it rose to 598.52, maintaining the region’s strong position. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), this marks a significant 58.90% increase in the police population ratio since 2019, when the ratio was 656.62. The J&K’s ranking in 2023 follows states like Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram, which have higher police population ratios. Meanwhile, Ladakh has seen a significant increase in its police population ratio over the past few years. As of 01.01.2019, the ratio stood at 569.05 police per lakh of population. This increased slightly to 563.51 by 01.01.2020. However, in the following years, Ladakh experienced a remarkable surge in its police strength. By 01.01.2021, the ratio rose to 822.82, and it continued to increase in the subsequent years, reaching 873.67 by 01.01.2022. As of 01.01.2023, Ladakh's police population ratio was 873.67—(KNO)
